Apparently, the ambulance came and took Morgan to the ER. He was still going in and out of consciousness in the ambulance, and they were able to get him to the actual ER exam room. When the cardiologists started to examine him and get him ready for a heart catherization, he coded and his heart stopped. The immediately were able to start CPR and shock him which brought him back. The one good thing in all of this, is that he could not have been in a better place to have the actual heart attack. If your heart wants to stop, stopping in front of a bunch of cardiologists is the way to go.
By this time, I had called Morgan's boss Magdi because I realized they didn't know that he had been taken to the ER and that Morgan's county car was somewhere in Chantilly. Again, I didn't think to ask the good samaritan exactly where he was when he went down. Magdi got right on it and they figured out that Morgan had been taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he now in the CICU.
By the time I got to the hospital around 1:00 or so, three guys from work were already there--Chris, Magdi and Maurice--which was fantastic. I was able to talk with them and right away had support from Morgan's work.
Maurice went back with me to the ICU after the attending doctor Dr. Yazdani came out just to let me know that Morgan had had a serious heart attack and they had placed three stents. In the ICU, I was able to get a lot more information from the two residents, Dr. Justin and Dr. Neal, who explained the procedure that had been done in more detail and gave me information about the game plan.
So the game plan is this: he is sedated and on a ventilator until his blood pressure is stable. Right now it is still going up and down. The balloon pump which had been regulating his heart like a pacemaker has now been taken out. This is really good news as it is one step to exiting the ICU completed. Once his blood pressure regulates they will try to take the breathing tube out. Hopefully tomorrow.
So for now, I am waiting to talk to the doctor for any further updates. I will then head home to rest up. Once he is no longer sedated, he will need me.
Doctor just updated. Things going well. Just needs more time. They will try to take out breathing tube tomorrow.
